CarrierRates founder John Skelton came up with the idea while listening to many auto shippers, carriers and brokers that were involved with his then auto transport startup business. He continued to hear different stories from auto shippers and carriers, mainly saying there needed to be a better way to do auto shipping.
This all started back in the late eighties and he started making mental notes of his findings with all the things wrong in the business of auto shipping according to his customers. While at the same time, adjusting how his small auto transport company did business, based on information discovered. In doing so, he noticed customers were much more satisfied, his company was being recognized and growing.
Being a small auto transport and brokerage company on the west coast and knowing, not any one auto transport company can be all things to all customers at all times, nationwide, no matter what size they are. He decided to take another step and create the environment where customers nationwide would receive better service through networking auto transport carriers, big and small online. Providing customers easy access with the same kind of information brokers use, is how CarrierRates was born.
